Bringing your world to life.
Illustrated character art is one of the best ways to shout about your book on social media and to provide readers with additional insight into your world. The feeling of seeing an artist bring your characters to life is incredible as these visions that have been floating around in your head for so long now suddenly take on a physical appearance. Some authors have gained very high levels of attention and readership to their books by commissioning and sharing multiple works of character art.
At PaperWild, we have carefully curated a team of artists and illustrators, all of whom share our commitment against AI, to provide authors with the best quality character art in the style you love.

Client Testimonials
"After a dreadful experience trying to find an artist to create character art without the use of AI, and the stress of commissioning someone only to find out they used AI, I turned to PaperWild.
After a few initial questions to get the gist of what I wanted, an artist was suggested who was within my price range and able to create what I wanted. The artwork I received is amazing and I will definitely be using PaperWild again. The entire process from start to finish was easy and stress free. Highly recommend! "

Art & Illustration FAQ
This is an extremely important question and is one of the main reasons I started PaperWild in the first place.
After seeing many author friends have terrible experiences with commissioning character art and receiving the most obvious AI-slop delivered and then having to fight with platforms to get their money back, I knew I wanted to bring together a community of artists all committed against AI, whose art works are truly unique and stand out.
Every single artist featured in our portfolio has been hand-selected and vetted by me to confirm that their artwork is entirely unique and original. Every artist featured in the portfolio actively stands against the use of AI in books and art work themselves, and every artist has also signed an agreement with PaperWild guaranteeing that they do not use AI in their works.
But aside from all those guarantees, PaperWild is based on the human factor all the way through, and 99.9% of AI art is incredibly easy to spot, especially when you spend way too much time browsing artist portfolios and character art posts on Instagram the way I do! The success of this platform is based on establishing trust and support with authors and lasting relationships with artists, and if any of the artists on our team are found to be using AI, they will be removed from our portfolio. We have a stunning range of styles across abstract, fantasy, cartoon, children's, dark, photo-realistic, portraits and more. Yes, up until a certain stage.
When you initially place your order, we will confirm your brief and submit it to the artist, and the artist will first deliver an early-stage sketch. It is only at this point that any changes can be made.
After you have approved a sketch, the artist will then proceed to the colour stage, and will send another version prior to final rendering, at which point some changes to colours can be requested.
After rendering is completed, no further changes can be made, and if any are required, it will be at an additional cost, depending on the complexity of the changes.Yes. Our standard character art commission prices include a full commercial use licence, which will be outlined clearly in a contract that is sent to you before you confirm your order. Summarised simply:
- The artist retains the original copyright of the image and can use it to promote their own artwork unless otherwise agreed at an additional cost
- You receive a full commercial use licence which allows you to use and re-sell the art work in any way, including on book covers, stickers, prints or merchandise.
- PaperWild is granted a promotional use licence to use on its social media profiles and website to promote our artist collaboration services and the author's work.
